Bio
Matthew Neil Gehring is an artist working in ceramics, drawing, and painting, who maintains an active studio practice and has exhibited widely, participating in numerous group shows and eight solo exhibitions, including Mixed Business at Stout Projects, Brooklyn, and Brilliant Corners at the Dishman Art Museum at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
His work has been featured or reviewed in publications including The New Criterion, Art Journal, Art Review, and ArtWeek. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Indiana and his MFA from the University of Delaware.
Matthew lives and works on Long Island, NY where he is a Professor of Art and Chair of Visual Arts at SUNY Suffolk, Ammerman Campus.
Statement
In this work I aim to create a kind of harmonic balance in which light, color, surface, form, and function are all equal players.
